What is an audio converter?

An audio converter transforms sound files from one format to another so they play on your device, fit an editing project, or meet a platform’s upload requirements.

Supported audio formats

MP3, WAV, AAC, M4A, OGG, FLAC and OPUS are supported when FFmpeg is available. The format list on this page only includes options the server can actually produce.

How to convert audio files

  1. Upload an audio file using the drop zone or file picker.
  2. Choose the output format, bitrate, sample rate and channels.
  3. Convert and download the result.

MP3 vs WAV

WAV files are usually uncompressed and larger, which is useful for editing. MP3 files are compressed for smaller size and easier sharing. If you need archival quality, prefer WAV or FLAC; for everyday listening, MP3 is often enough.

MP3 vs FLAC

FLAC is lossless — it preserves the original audio data while still compressing better than WAV. MP3 is lossy and typically much smaller. Convert FLAC to MP3 when you need portable files; keep FLAC when you want bit-perfect archives.

Audio quality and bitrate

Higher bitrates keep more detail and create larger files. For speech, 96–128 kbps can be fine. For music, 192 kbps is a practical default, and 256–320 kbps is better when you want fewer compression artifacts.
