How to Convert JPG to PNG Online

A JPG is a good fit for photographs. A PNG is a better fit when you need a widely supported file that keeps sharp edges, or when the next tool in your workflow asks for PNG specifically. Converting one into the other takes a few seconds in the browser.

What the conversion changes

The converter wraps the same picture in a different file format. It does not invent detail that JPG compression already discarded. If the photo looks soft or blocky as a JPG, the PNG will carry that same picture, usually in a larger file.

Use PNG when you need compatibility with an editor, a form upload, or a slide deck that rejects JPG. Stay with JPG when the picture is a photo and file size matters more than the container.

Convert a JPG to PNG

  1. Open the Image Converter.
  2. Drop in the JPG, or choose it from your device.
  3. Set the output format to PNG.
  4. Convert, then download the PNG. The file is removed automatically after 30 minutes.
